Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Give Existing Customers Access to My Store?

The app uses customer tags to determine who can access locked content. Before you lock anything down, make sure you tag your existing customers as approved - otherwise, they'll get locked out too!

  1. Go to Settings → App Management

  2. Find Tag customers created before a date as approved

  3. Click Start

  4. Select the date (e.g., today's date to include all existing customers)

  5. Click Tag X customers as talon-approval:approved

How Do I Collect VAT/Tax IDs for EU B2B Invoicing?

If you're an EU merchant, you probably know this frustration: Shopify's standard checkout doesn't have a native VAT/Tax ID field.

Talon Account Approval solves this by collecting VAT/Tax IDs before customers ever reach checkout:

  • Add a dedicated VAT/Tax ID field to your application form

  • Data is saved to Shopify customer metafields and accessible in invoices, themes, and integrations

  • The app automatically marks customers as tax-exempt (if enabled) in Shopify when you approve them - so Shopify can apply the exemption at checkout

  • Verify business customers before they can place orders

Where Is Customer Data Stored?

Customer data is saved in Shopify and stays with your store:

  • Shopify field data (email address, first name, last name) is stored in the corresponding Shopify fields

  • Custom field data is stored in Shopify customer metafields, so you can use it in themes, notifications, and invoices

  • Only file and image uploads are securely stored within the app, since Shopify doesn't provide file storage for customer records

Your data stays with you - even if you uninstall the app.

Does This App Manage Customer Logins?

No. The app uses Shopify's native customer accounts system for login. It only adds an approval layer on top -it doesn't replace or modify how customers log in.

Customers still:

  • Create accounts through Shopify's standard registration

  • Log in using Shopify's login system

  • Reset passwords through Shopify

The app simply checks if a logged-in customer has been approved before granting access to locked content.

How Do I Uninstall the App?

If you ever need to uninstall, here's how to do it cleanly:

  1. Go to Settings → App Management

  2. Click Remove all theme modifications, then click Start

  3. Wait for the process to complete

  4. At the top of the page, click ...Uninstall

This ensures all app code is removed from your theme before you uninstall.

Will I Lose Data If I Remove the App?

No. Customer data remains in your Shopify store. You can safely remove the app and keep all your data.
